Our Core Values

Mission Statement

Trinity St James is a Christ-centered community sharing God’s Word and caring for all.

The Core Values of Trinity St. James Lutheran Church

119 E. Munger Rd., P.O. Box 156

Munger, Michigan   48747

1.   We are called by God to equip our children with a love of God that cultivates a strong and secure spiritual knowledge and understanding of God’s Word, which will prepare them for their life journey.  As a Christ-centered community, we will pray and work toward setting godly examples at home, at work, at play and at church.  We will create strong family ties at home and within our church family.

  • “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.”  Proverbs 22:6
  • “Hear, O Israel:  The Lord our God, the Lord is one.  Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.  These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.  Impress them on your children.  Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.  Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.  Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.”  Deuteronomy 6:4-9

Therefore, we will:

  • Support and encourage education in schools of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod
  • Have age-appropriate Bible Studies and Sunday School classes for all ages
  • Provide families with resources to help them nourish Christian education, devotions, and discussions in the home

2.  We believe that Regular Study of God’s Word and Prayer are essential.  In order to nourish continuous spiritual growth and good works, we remain diligent in prayer and seeking, promoting and participating in Bible-centered preaching and teaching.

  • “But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.  All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”  2 Timothy 3: 14-17
  • “This is the confidence we have in approaching God:  That if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.”  1 John 5:14

Therefore, we will:

  • Encourage elected leaders to regularly attend worship services and Bible Studies at TSJ
  • Be diligent with ‘in-reach’; that is, reaching to our own members to encourage regular worship and Bible study in keeping with God’s word in Hebrews 10:24-25 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching
  • Begin and end all meetings, get-togethers, sporting events and all other activities on TSJ’s property with prayer
  • Follow the example of the Bereans in Acts 17, and hold all preaching and teaching to the truth of God’s Word in Scripture

3.  We Value Creative and Innovative Praise and Worship.  We are creative and innovative in our presentation of the Word of God while remaining faithful to time-honored traditions of the Holy Scriptures and the Evangelical Lutheran Church.

  • Stand at the gate of the Lord’s house and there proclaim this message:  “Hear the work of the Lord, all you people of Judah who come through these gates to worship the Lord.”  Jeremiah 7:2

Therefore, we will:

  • Have God-honoring excellence in all aspects of worship
  • Have worship services that share the Word of God in keeping with the Doctrine of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod
  • Be  aware of the ever-changing culture in the world around us, and connect with the culture in ways that are relevant and meaningful to them without compromising the doctrine of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod.

4.  Our Fellowship inspires regular opportunities for committed Christians to edify and encourage one another to strengthen unity in our church and help us to serve the Lord with all of our heart.

  • The body is a unit, though it  is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body.  So it is with Christ.  Now the body is not made up of one part but of many.  God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.  Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.”  1 Corinthians 12: 12-20, 27

Therefore, we will:

  • Have many opportunities to come together for volunteer events both inside and outside of the church to work with our brothers and sisters in the faith towards a common goal
  • Have events that are family friendly and fun
  • Plan, evaluate and re-shape as necessary all those functions that take place in the church, and are sponsored by the church to build up the body of Christ

5.  We believe that lost people matter to God, and therefore, matter to the church.

  • Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always to the very end of the age.”  Matthew 28: 19-20

Therefore, we will:

  • Focus on mission driven initiatives and outreach to share the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ by the members of Trinity-Saint James with the unchurched
  • Provide basic human-care needs as God enables us to do
  • Be  aware of the ever-changing culture in the world around us, and connect with the culture in ways that are relevant and meaningful to them without compromising the doctrine of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod.

6.  Our Financial Responsibility includes the spiritual duty of everyone to give generously to the Lord’s work.  Through tithing or another consistent prayer-based plan, we give individually according to our many blessings, to care for our Pastor, our worship facility and to support community and world-wide missions.

  • “On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made.”  1 Corinthians 16:2
  • “Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name.  Bring an offering and come before him; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.”  1 Chronicles 16:29

Therefore, we will:

  • Encourage members to trust in The LORD as He tells us to in Malachi 3, and participate in planned tithing
  • Strive to give 10% of the income of the church to missions supported by the Michigan District
  • Keep our facilities in good order and repair, updating them as necessary as resources allow
